small businesses. Corkoleum combines inspirational design with extreme
durability, providing the perfect marriage between form and function. The
glueless floating floor construction provides a monolithic appearance with
virtually invisible seams, and a fast and easy installation. Add in a
Lifetime Residential Wear Warranty, and Natural Lino Corkoleum is in a class
all its own.
Battleship Linoleum
Linoleum is derived from two Latin words: Linum meaning linen and Oleum
meaning oil. It was invented in 1860 by English rubber manufacturer Sir
Frederick Walton and quickly became a floor covering in high demand. It
became known as "battleship linoleum" due to its extreme strength and
durability. Natural Lino Corkoleum is so durable it is resistant to some
acids, grease, oil, solvents and even cigarette burns!
Sustainable & Renewable Corkoleum
Corkoleum is made from all-natural materials including linseed oil, cork
and wood flour (post-industrial dust), rosin and limestone. Organic pigments
are used to color the product. These ingredients are mixed and heated, then
applied to a jute backing to form the surface wear layer. The wear layer is
then attached to a premium exterior grade high density fiberboard (HDF) made
from recycled composite wood. The attached cork backing is produced using
the by-product material from the cork bottle stopper industry. Cork is the
harvested bark from a cork oak tree and is harvested every 9- 11 years from
trees with a lifespan of 120 up to 500 years!
Green Building with Natural Lino Corkoleum
Natural Lino Corkoleum floors contribute to satisfying LEED credits for
Rapidly Renewable Resources, Recycled Content, and Low Emitting Materials
under the LEED Rating System. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is the nationally
accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high
performance green buildings as administered by U.S. Green Building Council.
The manufacture is a member of the USGBC.
The determining factor for indoor air quality is the quantity of noxious
emanations from volatile organic compounds in adhesives and finishes.
Natural Lino Corkoleum floors are produced with adhesives and finishes from
European manufacturers and meet the E1 standard, a European test method to
measure formaldehyde emissions. Corkoleum core board material that provides
the structure for the Corkoleum veneer is also formaldehyde-free.
